Hi-fi Prototype

Milestone 5

Overview

For our Hi-fi Prototype, we decided to use our initial lo-fi designs that we provided in the previous milestone. Because of the amount of time and trial/error we spent creating those designs, we felt that they were a great basis for us to start from. While going through our lo-fi designs, we found that there was a few things for us to change; Which was the profile/post items workflows and focusing on the mobile experience.

Initial High Level Goals

Lo-fi Prototype
Moving the mobile experience from an Facebook applet to a separate application like Messenger
  1. An application that can sell, find the items I want, and buy them
  2. An application that looks clean and consistent
  3. An application that displays relevant information

Updated High Level Goals

Hi-fi Prototype
  1. Stayed the same as the lo-fi prototypes goals

Changes and Updates

When creating our hi-fi prototype, we always were thinking of our three goals that we originally set out on.
This is what we did to achieve our results.

From our discussions and lo-fi prototype, we thought the best way to achieve our new mobile experience of Facebook Marketplace should be to move Marketplace to a separate application like Messenger instead of being inside of Facebook. This would allow users an overall better experience while not being constrained inside of Facebook as a simple applet. The new Marketplace app would look and feel like a Facebook application so that a normal users workflow would be streamlined.

Goal 1

Selling

We cleaned up the current item posting process but one our biggest changes was the addition of the selling wizard. This wizard would allow you to type in the item you wanted to sell and then help you along with creating the listing. Once you choose the item you wanted sell, you would then select details to help fill in the information. Everytime you selected a new description item, the listings below would update until you found a like item you’re wanting to sell. You could then click on that item and use it with all details inside of your listing so all you’d need to do is fill out the basic information after that and you’d be all set.

Finding items

We followed our low-fi prototype in creating the new enhanced search functionality that added some of the features our research participants wanted. We added more categories that better separated items and added enhanced viewing, sorting, and filtering options that were lacking from the original applet.

Buying

To be able to buy a product, you wanted to overall have a good experience using the application. This was achieved by all the changes we did for each goal to the overall application. The most important sections was viewing product information and contacting the seller which were both updated

Goal 2

Clean Look/Consistency - UI

As mentioned before, to achieve our new look we separated Marketplace into its own application. When designing, we made sure to follow the same look/feel of Facebook and Messenger but also make Marketplace feel like its own entity. One other issue that we noticed during our research was the amount amount of differences/changes between different devices. We thought that with separating the app into its own application we would also enforce the same design throughout devices so that users would have the same experience no matter what they were using

Goal 3

Display Information

Product

We updated the home screen with a new sub-navigation menu and more simplified product displays. The navigation is broken out into All, Stores, and Groups. We added the price to each listing so that the first thing you saw was a product image and price. The new sub-navigation allowed us to consolidate like information about products into organized sections. Each product now has more detail fields so that users can know more about a item. Overall, these changes will make finding, looking, and reviewing items easier.

Seller - Notification

We made it easier to communicate by creating a Notifications tab inside of Marketplace only for Marketplace. This notifications were broken out into different sections that corresponded with a certain update like replies

Seller - Profiles

We added a separate profile for Marketplace like Messenger that allows you more controls/options while giving potential buyers more information about a seller. This allows both parties to be confident in contacting someone.
